2005 $ 60.000

The Children’s foundation has donated a 50 decar site in a residential area in Askim, near Oslo, Norway. The site is located in an area where approximately 3000 new inhabitants will be settled within 2050. The purpose of this donation is to ensure children living in the area a safe and good quality playground regardless of commercial expansion. Moreover, the project seeks to promote physical activity for children of all ages, enjoyment, wellbeing and cohesion in a new housing settlement.

The area will be designed as a natural playground, built with natural materials, creative land shapes and vegetation, which functions as a space divider and which creates seasonal variation. A small stream will be reopened, and a variation of paths through the area will be established. The park will include components such as boulders, hollow logs, towers, slides, an obstacle course, climbing possibilities and a sandbox. In addition, a football field, minor courts for ball games and a mountain bike trail will be developed. More peaceful places such as a Balinese pavilion for resting, reading and an area where the children can practice carpentry by themselves will also be available. In addition to the natural elements the playground will contain some traditional commercial playground equipment. The area will be accessible and inviting through all seasons!

A prerequisite of this donation is that the local authorities keep their commitment to build a play- and sports ground on site. 500 villas will be constructed there.
